Biography

Arthur Willis Jones III (June 3, 1986 – October 3, 2025) was an American professional football defensive tackle who played eight seasons in the National Football League (NFL). Born in Rochester, New York, Jones grew up in Endicott and excelled in both football and wrestling at Union-Endicott High School, becoming a two-time New York state wrestling champion.

Jones played college football at Syracuse University from 2005 to 2009, where he earned All-Big East honors twice and was considered one of the top senior defensive tackles for the 2010 NFL Draft. He was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the fifth round and spent four seasons with the team, winning Super Bowl XLVII in 2013.

After signing with the Indianapolis Colts in 2014, Jones' career was hampered by injuries and a suspension for performance-enhancing drugs. He finished his career with a brief stint with the Washington Redskins in 2017 before retiring in 2018.

Jones was the older brother of UFC legend Jon Jones and NFL defensive end Chandler Jones, making the Jones family one of the most accomplished athletic families in sports history. He earned a degree in communication and rhetorical studies from Syracuse and was known for his positive attitude and infectious energy.

Jones passed away suddenly on October 3, 2025, at his home in Pompey, New York, at the age of 39. His death was mourned across the NFL and UFC communities, with tributes from teammates, opponents, and fans worldwide.
